When We Are Closed

The NHS 111 Urgent Care Service provides emergency cover when the surgery is closed. The contact telephone number is 111.

You should only call 111 when:

    • you think you need to go to A&E or another NHS urgent care service

    • your GP surgery is closed and you need healthcare advice

    • you don’t know who to call for medical help.

Only call 999 for life threatening emergencies such as:

    • major incident or trauma

    • severe breathlessness

    • severe bleeding

    • loss of consciousness

    • severe chest pain.

Please only use this during the times listed below.

    • Weekends: Friday 18.30 to Monday 08.00
    • Monday - Thursday: 18.30 to 08.00
    • Bank Holidays: All day

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary close to the heart of Newcastle city centre.
